Having generated extensive coverage for CEO Wayne Wachell on the merits of divesting from fossil fuels, my team at Yulu saw an opportunity for Genus Capital’s co-founder, Chair of the Board and Director of Wealth Management, Leslie Cliff, to emerge as a thought leader for the organization, sharing her considerable expertise as both a woman at the top of her game in finance, and someone who built a reputation by cutting through the BS and bombast of other financial advisors. My pitches landed Leslie an investment advice column in the Globe and Mail, as well as an op-ed on gender bias in the finance industry for the Financial Post. Pieces I wrote with Wayne Wachell landed in Conscious Company magazine and HuffPost.
Working with Red Bull Amaphiko afforded me the opportunity to work with 15 clients in one, each with their own compelling story about how personal experience informed their brilliant approaches to solving social issues in their communities. I wrote about the founders disrupting a broken education system for GOOD magazine, about how several participants were elevating the conversation on racism for Conscious Company magazine. I helped two others write about leveraging mentorship to scale a community bike shop and using yoga to help black males deal with the pressures they face for The Renewal Project.
Impact Relations is a new subset of PR devoted to authentic, transparent communications in the public interest, with social impact storytelling at its heart. Since its inception in January 2018, I’ve served as managing editor of The Agenda, Impact Relations’ monthly newsletter devoted to social impact storytelling and its power to drive behaviour.
B-360 founder Brittany Young is one of the fellows of the Baltimore cohort of Red Bull Amaphiko Academy — a social entrepreneurship platform that provides mentorship and resources to give wings to founders with brilliant approaches to the social issues in their communities. Working with Brittany to hone her messaging and craft compelling pitches, I landed media coverage in Teen Vogue, Mashable, CBS News, Forbes and more.
One of the pioneers of the Canadian Divest-Invest movement, Genus Capital releases yearly reports on the data of its divested portfolios, demonstrating that it’s possible to build a high-performing investment portfolio without contributing to climate change. Synthesizing the most pertinent data from these reports, I built out pitches that resulted in coverage by The Guardian, Toronto Star and the Financial Post. Capitalizing on divestment trends like a move away from tobacco and using the United Nations SDGs as an impact barometer, I secured coverage in Yahoo! Finance and the Winnipeg Free Press.
